It's quite surprising to me that Dark Tranquility didn't go the way of previous Swede death metal bands and turn their sound into a radio friendly beg. Instead our old favorites Dark Tranquility still manage to keep things as tight and musically inclined as ever with "Fiction".

Picking up where "Damage Done" and the "Character" EP left off, DT still have that excellent song writing know how intact that keeps you tuned in at all times. Somehow this band still finds writes and riffs their way through hook after hook in a flurry of capturing melodies that never get old. You'll never find a track on this song that does not enamor you with that classic Swedish DM sound that this band still tends to use to their advantage, and they use it without terrible repetition or redundancy.

Most bands we listen to, after a certain duration, tend to trail off and leave behind their sounds for the horrid attempts at something for accessible (In Flames comes to mind). With DT, that ability has always been there and is apparent on this new album as with previous but they do it in DT fashion, never compromising and always pushing forward.

"Fiction" is another excellent slab of DT goodness that will never go stale. After all these years the band has only matured their sound and playing ability which gives us the constant consistency DT is known for.
