The world has changed a lot since "The Ultimate Incantation", and so has Vader. Sure, Frank is the last man standing; out with the old-in with the new, but don’t change what works. Vader really are Poland's Morbid Angel; when Behemoth strayed towards the occult, Vader stuck with the pentagram and murdered Christ on the last supper.
Vader's new album, Necropolis, is drowning in Murder; punishing riffs filled with rage, guitars played like an assassin, and enough sinister mystery to hide the bodies.
Vader has a unique gift about giving each song it's own character; each track has it’s own twisted shape, each solo carefully fused with the songs like resin coating intestinal walls of a demon called Vader.
The vocals on Necropolis aren't as dry as past albums; quite clear and distinct, but overall lacking variety with the exception of come chorus on a few parts. The Guitar work on Necropolis is by far its highlight. If the Demon is Vader, the guitars on this album are its teeth. The guitars on Necropolis sound like a salivating beast about to snap off a limb, from riff to solo. "When the Sun Drowns Dark" is a wah-pedals nightmare come true; unforgettable, and masterfully executed. The Riff on "Impure" is especially tasty, but is just a tad overused. While "Rise of the Undead" seems like a completely unnecessary filler song, dueling guitar solos slice your face open making the monotony worth it. "Never Say My Name" is noteworthy for its punishing double bass and massive riffage, which builds up to an insane flesh-ripping solo, but then again, we expect nothing less.
Necropolis is recorded and performed by the best in the Blackened Death Metal business. Vader is as dangerous as they have ever been, and although there isn't a lot of progress that has been made on Necropolis, the 3 new members have learned the art of Murder-by-Metal just fine.
