A blend of aggression and beauty, the US debut from Finnish band Hevein is truly one that defies classification. Album opener "Break Outthe Hammers," with its instant riff-heavy wall of sound is as far removedas once can bear witness when matched with the orchestral cadence andvocal harmony found on "As Far as the Eye Can See," a mere threealbum tracks later. It is a record you simply need to experience to understand the extensive range this sextet possess.
Hailing from Helsinki, Hevein have been a name on the Scandinavianscene since 1992. It was in 2003, however, with the addition of celloplayer Max Lilja (Apocalyptica) that the band really made extensivestrides in way of not only their sound but profile. With Hevein, the stringensemble is real, not a simulated keyboard or studio wizardry. Fans aswide-ranging as My Dying Bride to Trivium will take notice to this band'simpeccable musicianship and distinctive character.

The flawless transission of sound and styles on Sound Over Matter reallymake this album a gem. It is a musical marriage that bridges unlikelystyles on one album and not failing either side of the proverbial coin.

Sound Over Matter is the fourth album from the Spinefarm/CandlelightAmerican collaboration. It joins recent releases from The Wake, Thyrane, and Amoral.
